Peer support groups provide a fellowship of persons who share experiences, strengths, weaknesses, feelings, fears, and hopes with one another to resolve dual diagnosis issues and/or learn to live at peace with unresolved issues. Based on an authorized version of the 12 Steps of Alcoholics Anonymous plus an additional five steps that focus on dual diagnosis (mental illness and substance use disorder).
