Provides a number of legal information services including:

Introducing crime victims to advocates who can assist with processing trauma, navigating the rights they may have as a victim, and procuring restraining orders.

Helping individuals report crimes to police or an investigator.

Providing case information and updates to impacted individuals.

Providing information on how to address prior convictions or court fines and fees.

Explaining how the criminal justice system operates in Multnomah County.

Helping defendants connect with their defense attorney or parole/probation officer, getting information on warrant lifts, and providing upcoming court dates.

Helping people get referred to other services and other community-based organizations.

Deschutes Public Library partners with the Deschutes County Access to Justice Committee to offer 30-minute consultations with an attorney offering general legal information or referrals to other agencies. Assists with family law, domestic violence, housing, public benefits, education, employment, consumer issues, civil rights and senior law.

Does not assist with criminal law questions.

Provides information and resources regarding discrimination related to sexual orientation, gender identity and expression, and HIV status. The Help Desk cannot provide legal advice. Help Desk inquiries are kept confidential. Assistance may include follow-up discussions with Lambda Legal attorneys or contact information for an attorney in the area or for other organizations that may directly assist.

NORTHWEST JUSTICE PROJECT
COORDINATED LEGAL EDUCATION, ADVICE AND REFERRAL HOTLINE (CLEAR)
A telephone intake and referral system which connects callers to legal information including advice, brief legal service, and referrals to agencies where legal representation is available.

Staff attorneys will often help a caller by preparing court papers, negotiating and advocating on their behalf. Advises and assists with family law (divorce, separation, custody, child support), housing issues, foreclosure, evictions, access to government benefits, access to medical care and benefits, education rights, employment issues (primarily for agricultural workers), and consumer related issues (bankruptcy, debt collections, fraud).
