GENERAL ASSISTANCE PROGRAM
Oregon Department of Human Services' (ODHS) General Assistance (GA) Program is based on a Housing First model to prevent homelessness of individuals with severe disabilities through short-term financial assistance around housing stability. The program serves individuals with severe disabilities who are in the process of applying for Social Security disability benefits, but do not yet receive them, and that meet other specific qualifying eligibility criteria. Clients will also receive assistance with Social Security applications and appeals processes. If a client is awarded Social Security benefits, they will pay back a portion of the GA award received. Application time may take up to 3-6 months to be processed. Please be sure all eligibility requirements are met.
