-At least 21 years old
-Can pass a background check
-Can demonstrate financial independence (families cannot be dependent upon the foster care stipend)
-Complete orientation and pre-certification training, and maintain certification through continued education and training
-Reliable transportation
-At least one driver over the age of 21 with a valid Oregon driver’s license
-Separate bedroom with a door and a window for the foster kid placed in your home
Requirements for youth to be placed in a respite home are as follows:
-Ages 3-17
-Reside in Multnomah, Clackamas, and Wasington Counties
-Active case, respite included in the treatment plan, and referred by the mental health therapist
-Have Oregon Health Plan (OHP) coverage (not open card)
-Approved by CareOregon with a respite authorization
-At risk for out-of-home placement due to their mental health diagnosis
-Have behaviors that the service can stabilize
-The emotional distress of the family, caused by the youth’s mental health disorder, can be decreased with the service
-Not actively suicidal, homicidal, or aggressive
-Actively involved with a mental health provider who will provide after-hours crisis intervention during the respite period
-Have a placement in a foster home or their family home is available at the end of the respite stay
