TAX ASSISTANCE
Provides Federal and Oregon tax preparation through in person and virtual appointments. Trained volunteers are IRS certified to prepare most individual tax returns and limited self-employment returns. The agency website has information and links to virtual tax preparation, do-it-yourself tax prep, and a detailed list of in person locations. Offers assistance to apply or renew an Individual Taxpayer Identification Number (ITIN) and information on tax credits. Accepts volunteers for Client Facilitators, Interpreter, Outreach Committee members, and Tax Preparers.

Eligibility: Focused on serving the Hispanic/Latino community and Spanish speakers
Low and moderate income households; income below $64,000
None of the following:
Rental property, sale of cryptocurrency, or adjustments on education expenses (box 4 or 6 of your 1098-T)
Self employment income with any of the following:
Over $35,000 in expenses, a loss for the year, employees, business use of the home, depreciation or amortization
Hours: Open Tuesday/Thursday noon-4pm, Wednesday/Friday 9am-1pm, from Tuesday, May 1, 2024 through Sunday, October 26, 2024. By appointment only. No walk-ins.

-Visit website "Get Tax Help" tab to access virtual tax preparation, links to do-it-yourself tax prep, Individual Taxpayer Identification Number (ITIN) application and renewal, or entire list of in person tax preparation locations
-Visit website or email for volunteer opportunities

DOCUMENTS: Individuals will need the following documents (scanned if virtual) to complete their intake packet:
-Government picture ID for taxpayer and spouse if filing jointly (both must be present at appointment)
-Social Security card or ITIN for everyone on your tax return. This includes originals or photocopies of Social Security or ITIN cards, Medicare cards with the letter "A" after the Social Security number, and Social Security or ITIN letters
-Proof of all income, such as W-2s or 1099s and statements for self-employed earnings, prizes, or gambling winnings
-Health Insurance Statements: Forms 1095-A, B, or C, or Affordable Health Care statements
-Last year's tax return
-Checking and savings account information and routing and account numbers for direct deposit (such as a voided check)

For other common deductions, all that apply:
-Child care expenses (provider's name, address, phone number, tax ID#, amount spent)
-Homeowners (mortgage and property tax statements)
-Education (1098-T education scholarships or grants, 1098-E Student Loan Interest Statement, OR-529 college savings plan, receipts of expenses)
-Alimony (paid or received)
-Medical expenses (deductible in limited circumstances, bring receipts or amounts)
-Charitable donations
-Retirement plan contributions (IRA, 401k, or others)
-Notices (IRS, Oregon Department of Revenue, Health Insurance Marketplace notices, or others that say "Important Tax Document")
