OREGON VETERANS EMERGENCY FINANCIAL ASSISTANCE PROGRAM
The Oregon Veterans Emergency Financial Assistance Program, funded through the Oregon Department of Veterans Affairs (ODVA), is a grant that provides emergency financial assistance to veterans and their immediate family members once per lifetime. Funding is limited, and varies per individual.

Emergency financial assistance may include, but is not limited to, emergency or temporary housing and related housing expenses, such as expenses for utilities, insurance, rent, and house repairs; emergency medical or dental expenses; and/or emergency transportation. All payments are made directly to the vendor.

Eligibility: Veterans with an Honorable Discharge or a General Discharge Under Honorable Conditions and their immediate family members (spouse, un-remarried surviving spouse, child, or stepchild).

INTAKE PROCEDURE: Call the local County Veterans Service Officer (CVSO) who can assist with the application process and submit to the Oregon Department of Veteran Affairs for consideration. Applications are accepted from the 1-10th of every month, and are considered in order of submission. If funding has been exhausted for the month, applicant must wait until next month before reconsideration.

DOCUMENTS: Cover letter including a brief statement indicating how the desired financial assistance will benefit recipient, and whether they have connected with other supportive services to assist with financial need. Proof of Oregon residence (Driver's License or State ID) and evidence of separation from military service, showing length and character of service (DD214, VA Medical Center ID Card, Military Retiree Identification, Veteran Identification Data, US Department of Veteran Affairs letter verifying service). Documentation indicating emergency financial need such as eviction or foreclosure notice, utility shut-off notice, past due rent notification (including rental agreement & terms), billing statements, repair estimates, cost estimates, doctor's/dentist's written statement indicating an emergency procedure requirement and cost quote.

TRAVEL/LOCATION INFORMATION: Office is located on May Street, two blocks west of Providence Hospital, across the street from the Church of Latter Day Saints. Take the first driveway around to the back of the building where you will see the Hood River County Veteran Service Office sign.
