Wood or pellet stoves, fireplaces, outdoor fire pits, chimineas.
The ordinance does not apply to cooking food. Charcoal grills, smokers, or wood fired ovens.
Call the reporting number or fill out an online complaint to report a violation on a wood-burning restriction (red) day.
Check air quality conditions and burn advisory status every time before you burn. Red means "stop." Yellow means "limit."
Multnomah County will issue a burn restriction (red) day if poor air quality is expected. Advisories and restrictions take effect by noon the same day.
Note:
-For burning outdoor trash, contact the Department of Environmental Quality (DEQ).
-For unattended fires, contact Portland Fire and Rescue.

Exceptions:
- Wood/pellet burning is the ONLY way to heat the main living space.
-Total household income is 60% or less than the Oregon median income.
-Emergency conditions are present if there is a power outage, service interruption, or failure of your main heating system (120 days only).
-Other temporary exemptions may be allowed (for example, ceremonial reasons) upon Director's authorization and must be applied before operating a device.
