211info
Welcomes Interim CEO
CEO Liesl Wendt joined
the team in April, bringing with her an extensive background in the
nonprofit and policy worlds. She was previously Vice President for External
Relations at the Chalkboard Project and Neighborhood Engagement
Director for Portland Mayor Tom Potter.
However, Liesl is not new to 2-1-1. She played an instrumental role
in establishing 2-1-1 in Portland while she was with the United Way
of the Columbia-Willamette. Liesl has proven to be a passionate
advocate for the services 211info provides. The board and
staff look forward to her continued leadership and energy.

Combating the
Foreclosure Crisis
With high unemployment and unaffordable mortgage loans,
the Portland metro area is experiencing a foreclosure crisis.
Borrowers, seeing no possibility of paying steep mortgages, simply
give up. Or worse, they put their trust in companies that ultimately
scam them out of their homes.
The Portland Housing Bureau
has recognized the need for additional support services for those who
are in mortgage default or foreclosure. Through a competitive
funding process 211info, Oregon ACORN, and Pyramid Communications
were awarded a grant to reach out to those in greatest need of
mortgage assistance. The goal is to use our combined expertise to
reach low-income and minority Portland homeowners through
person-to-person outreach, a public awareness campaign, and
comprehensive information and referral to HUD-certified counseling
programs and other support services.
Do you know of someone who may be in need of foreclosure counseling? Call
2-1-1 today.

2-1-1 in Yamhill on
the Horizon
211info, the United Way of the Mid-Willamette Valley
(UWMWV), and the Yamhill Commission on Children and Families (YCCF)
are partnering to bring 2-1-1, to Yamhill County.
211info recently led two provider forums for agencies in
McMinnville and Newberg. 2-1-1 will help Yamhill residents navigate
the maze of health and community service offerings as they gain free
and easy access to the answers they need most.
At forums, participants learned how 2-1-1 data is collected and used,
witnessed a model 2-1-1 call, and were provided with essential
details about 2-1-1 outreach in their communities.
For more information about Yamhill 2-1-1, contact YCCF director
Marilyn Kennelly (503.474.4923, kennellym@co.yamhill.or.us).

On the Ground in SW
Washington
There is a buzz about 2-1-1 in Vancouver. 211info's
Americorps member and SW Washington Outreach Coordinator Melissa
Crocker has been speaking about 2-1-1 and Housing Connections in
front of packed houses. "To my surprise I was even given a
thank-you card from the class with grateful comments and
signatures," says Melissa.
Melissa has attended several community forums to spread the word
about the important work being done by 211info. One forum
focused on "how Clark County approaches filling the gaps in
social services." With media in attendance, the conversation
quickly turned to the role of 2-1-1, generating much excitement.
Keep an eye out for Melissa at upcoming community events and resource
fairs in Southwest Washington. She can be reacher at melissa@211info.org.
