As kids are heading back to school, resources are available throughout Multnomah, Washington and Clark counties to help with school supplies.

Call 2-1-1 for referrals to some of these free or reduced-price tools for school. However, supplies are very limited, so act now.

Volunteer with 211info

Because of the economic crisis, calls to 2-1-1 have skyrocketed. For the first time, 211info is reaching out for the help of volunteers to continue connecting people with the resources they need most.

Are you or someone you know looking for a way to volunteer in a meaningful way?  Donating your time as a call center volunteer with 211info means helping your community in a way few others can. Contact Jenny Dodd, Volunteer and Outreach Team Coordinator at
jenny@211info.org for more information about upcoming trainings during September and October.

Combating the Foreclosure Crisis

forclosure
With high unemployment and unaffordable mortgage loans, the Portland metro area is experiencing a foreclosure crisis. Borrowers, seeing no possibility of paying steep mortgages, simply give up. Or worse, they put their trust in companies that ultimately scam them out of their homes.

The
Portland Housing Bureau has recognized the need for additional support services for those who are in mortgage default or foreclosure.  Through a competitive funding process 211info, Oregon ACORN and Pyramid Communications were awarded a grant to reach out to those in greatest need of mortgage assistance. The goal is to use our combined expertise to reach low-income and minority Portland homeowners through person-to-person outreach, a public awareness campaign and comprehensive information and referral to HUD-certified counseling programs and other support services.

Do you know of someone who may be in need of foreclosure counseling? Call 2-1-1 today.

SenatorsThanks to Senators Murray, Wyden, Cantwell and Merkley!
Oregon and Washington's senators have signed on in support of the Calling for 2-1-1 Act that would provide 2-1-1 much-needed federal funding.

Thanks to those who wrote Senator Merkley last month. Engaging your elected officials is powerful -- and so is a "thank you" for a job well done.

Please email
Senator Murray, Senator Wyden, Senator Cantwell and Senator Merkley with this simple message:

"Thank you, Senator, for standing with your community and supporting the Calling for 2-1-1 Act. Last year, more than 100,000 people turned to 211info, Oregon and Southwest Washington's 2-1-1 hub, for free and easy access to referrals for food, shelter, health care, foreclosure assistance and much more. If passed, S. 211 will help millions across the nation, and in your home state, get connected to the answers they need most."

If S.211 moves to the House of Representatives, the Calling for 2-1-1 Act already has two local champions  - Oregon's Representative Blumenauer and Representative Wu. Stay tuned for updates on this crucial piece of legislation.

Service Providers, How Can We Help You?

Call Volume211info aspires to be a vital community partner.

The recent economic crisis has increased the need to further develop relationships with nonprofit leaders. We are looking for innovative ways to work with provider leaders as we advance toward our common goal of delivering services to all who need them. 211info can be a hub for system-wide information and data that serves as a core component of the health and community services infrastructure.

Please take less than 2 minutes to complete this
one-question survey, as we prepare a new data service for providers in the community.
