Emergency shelters in Multnomah County CLOSED, other counties open

After reviewing the forecast, at this time, we do NOT anticipate a Severe Weather Alert will be issued for the evening of Tuesday January 11, 2011 in Multnomah County. Emergency Shelters are open in Clackamas County.

The National Weather Service predicts the following:

Jan 3: NO Severe Weather Alert for Multnomah County

After reviewing the forecast for 1/3/11, I want to check in with you regarding the weather.

 

At this time, we do NOT anticipate a Severe Weather Alert will be issued for January 3, 2011. Local weather will be partly cloudy, with a low around 25° F. East northeast wind around 6 mph. The criteria used to determine a Severe Weather Alert and the corresponding opening of Red Cross emergency warming centers is:

A low temperature predicted at or below 22° F, or three or more nights predicted at or below 25° F.

No Severe Weather Alert

At this time, a Severe Weather Alert will NOT be issued for Wednesday, 12/29/10 in Multnomah County. Clackamas County emergency shelters and Washington County emergency shelters are OPEN.

NO Severe Weather Alert

At this time, we do NOT anticipate that a severe weather alert (SWA) will be issued for Friday (12/17) through the weekend.

Currently, forecasted conditions suggest that temperatures and wind may briefly (for approx. two hours) come close to meeting SWA criteria early Saturday (12/18) morning (from 2-4 AM). And, while snow is forecast tomorrow from 4-9 AM, it is expected that there will be little or no accumulation.

Portland Emergency Shelters Closed: Call 211 for seasonal/permanent shelters.

At this time, we do NOT anticipate a Severe Weather Alert will be issued for Wednesday, November 24th.

The National Weather service’s predicts temperatures at a low of 28 degrees tonight with no wind or rain.

Severe Weather Shelters NOT OPEN in Multnomah County

Just got off the phone with our Emergency Services Coordinator - severe weather shelters will not open tonight. 

The Portland Housing Bureau will keep us updated on any changes and will closely monitor the situation tonight and through tomorrow.

211: One number for winter shelter in Multnomah County [Press Release]

What: Multnomah County residents can call 211, toll-free, from any phone to be placed in seasonal winter shelter and emergency warming centers. Updates are also available at www.211info.org.

When: From November through March 31, the nonprofit 211info has extended its hours to 8am to 10pm, seven days a week.

Portland Winter Homeless Shelter Opens

Stop me if you’ve heard this one in the past few months:

Candidate X is trying to take away the thing you cherish, because he’s a negative word.

After all that negativity it is nice to be reminded that there are some uplifting things going on in our community. The Winter Warming Center for Homeless Families at Eastminster Presbyterian Church is now open because of a collaboration among nonprofit, faith-based and government entities.
