Last week, several staff members from 211info attended the Hands on Greater Portland Heart of the Community Awards. We were all touched by the heart-warming stories of local individuals, nonprofits and businesses uniting to make Portland a better place. It made me reflect on the amazing generosity we see in the 211info offices every day.
Not too long ago 211info didn’t have a volunteer program. But in a few short months, Jenny Dodd our Volunteer Coordinator has assembled a team of more than 20 amazing volunteers who answer specialty phone lines, maintain our information database and help with outreach.
One of our volunteers, Marcella Tison, recently detailed her journey from being a 2-1-1 caller to being a dynamic 211info volunteer:
If you or someone you know would like to volunteer in the greater Portland region please get in contact with Hands on Greater Portland or if you would like to volunteer with 211info email Jenny at jenny@211info.org.

Dennis Frantz Personal Advocate for Elders in Action
After owning his own business for 23 years in downtown Portland and retiring, Dennis was looking for a opportunity where he could make a difference and have an impact on lives. He came to Elders in Action to volunteer in the Personal Advocate program in the summer of 2007 and since then he has assisted over 20 clients with problems in the area of housing, health care or crime and abuse. A majority of the people he has assisted happen to be widows who are in need of some sort of assistance and whom are so appreciative of him coming out to help them find resolution. Dennis is always willing to take on a case, participate in new volunteer trainings and looks for new outreach opportunities for Elders in Action. He is often referred to as the “King of King City” around the office. He is also a part of our speaker's bureau program where he enjoys educating older adults about scams and frauds and helping to keep them safe and informed,
This is great Mark! Thanks so much. -Matt
