Take a look at holiday assistance programs for Yamhill County residents

Earlier this afternoon, I posted Thanksgiving and Christmas food assistance and  Christmas gifts available to needy families in Marion County. This post is for folks in Yamhill County:


  • Newberg Christian Church Thanksgiving Day meal is open to the entire Newberg community, 12:30 p.m. to 2 p.m. Church volunteers will deliver Thanksgiving meals to those who are unable to get to the church. Walk-in guests are welcome at the community meal. Call for information if you need a meal delivered.
  • McMinnville Cooperative Ministries Coop Thanksgiving Day community breakfast, 8 a.m. to 10 a.m. Walk-in guests are welcome and there are no restrictions on services.
  • The McMinnville Salvation Army Thanksgiving Day dinner will take place at Saint James Catholic Church, noon to 1:30 p.m.
  • The McMinnville Jaycees will deliver a traditional Thanksgiving dinner on Thanksgiving Day to any homebound Yamhill county residents. To request home meal deliveries, call the Salvation Army at 503-472-1009 by 4:30 p.m. on Nov. 23.


  • City Outreach Ministries is distributing Christmas toys for those in need in the McMinnville area in coordination with the Salvation Army, Sheriff's Office, YCAP and Church on the Hill. Call 503-434-4392 for more information.
  • The Newberg Fire Department is providing toys for the holidays to Newberg area children ages 0 to 15. Applications are being accepted through Dec. 20 at the downtown fire station Mon. through Fri., 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Please check the 211info website for other times and locations where applications can be picked up.
  • The Newberg FISH Emergency Service is distributing Christmas food boxes to Newberg area residents with incomes below the Federal Poverty Line. Applications can be picked up at their office on Tuesdays and Thursdays, 10:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m.
