Cooling Centers Available in Salem

Salem, Ore. The City of Salem wants area residents to know of a couple of cooling centers available today.

Center 50+, 2615 Portland Road NE Center is open 7:30 a.m. until 9 p.m. Residents are welcome and encouraged to use Center 50+ as a cooling site. Although most of the classrooms are being used for specific classes, the lobby will be open for reading, visiting or playing cards/games. We will also be showing the classic movie, The Quiet Man, starring John Wayne and Maureen O'Hara (6-8p.m.)--this is open to everyone. Ice water is available. Char Mitchell is the staff on duty and can be reached at 503-588-6303 Thursday evening.

Salem Public Library, 585 Liberty St SE, is open until 9 p.m. this evening. The public is always welcome to visit and enjoy your library. For more information, residents may call the Library at 503-588-6315.

Of course, area malls and theatres are great cooling places too.

Stay hydrated, remain inside if you can, use sunscreen if you can't stay out of the sun, and remember to check on our more vulnerable populations such as seniors and pets.
