A lot happening in Clackamas County in the upcoming days. Two of these posts contain information about ongoing events that are of particular benefit to kids. It's great to see how much Clackamas County is doing to promote healthy families.
- Make a commitment to learn healthy parenting practices by attending a free 12-week program called Parenting Inside Out. Through interactive coaching, role play, writing down your thoughts and feelings and discussing issues, you will expand your understanding of child development, the key to increasing your confidence as a parent. Funded through a grant from the Clackamas County Commission on Children and Families, the classes meet twice a week in Oregon City, starting May 16th.
- People without medical or dental insurance are invited to attend the 2011 Compassion North Clackamas health and social services event. The day will be devoted to providing free medical and chiropractic services, dental cleaning and emergency services, immunizations, pet care, hair cuts and much more. Breakfast and lunch will be served free of charge. Spanish speakers and translators available. This event will be held at Lot Whitcomb Elementary School, 7400 S.E. Thompson Road in Milwaukie, May 14th from 8 AM to 4 PM.
- Kids, grow healthy and strong by joining the Power of Produce (POP) Club. This incentive program for children ages 5 through 12 is made possible by Clackamas County in connection with the two Oregon City farmers markets. Kids fill out a Passport to Health and every time they come to one of the two markets, they receive $5 worth of tokens to buy fruits and veggies. The Saturday Market is already underway at the County Parking Lot, 9 AM to 2 PM. The Wednesday Market will open June 1st at 8th and Main. Hours will be 3 PM to 7 PM.
- If you are a military veteran diagnosed with post-traumatic stress syndrome (PTSD) or traumatic brain injury (TBI), there are federal resources through Community Solutions to help you find work. This free program, called Working Solutions, assists veterans with translating their military skills to a civilian economy, preparing resumes, practicing interview skills, navigating job leads, and leveraging workplace accommodations. To qualify for these services, you must be a Clackamas County resident and legal to work in the United States. For more information, call 503.723.4977.
