The housing application program that makes too much sense [Vancouver]
So imagine you’re a Vancouver, WA resident. You’re strapped for cash and trying to find an affordable place to live. You visit HousingConnections.org, find a couple one-bedroom apartments that you think will work. You visit the apartments only to find there is an application fee at each place.
Frustrated, you’re now faced with a decision about whether you go grocery shopping tonight or apply for the three new places.
This is an all-too-common experience. People have to make tough tradeoffs between application fees and other necessary items every day.
Of course, there is another side of the story too. Landlords need to know what kind of tenant they might be renting to and those fees pay for the processing of the application.
Thankfully, the Vancouver Housing Authority has invested in MyScreeningReport.com® which is a direct-to-consumer report.
This means applicants order reports on themselves - who in turn share their authenticated report with the landlord or landlords of their choice.
This Direct-to-Consumer report puts you in control of your own information. You will know what is in your report before you apply. You have the opportunity to dispute information you feel is reported in error before it impacts your search for housing. You avoid paying multiple screening fees before finding a landlord who will accept you.
Consumer initiated credit inquiries are "soft" inquiries which do not impact credit scores.
Now the apartment seeker doesn’t have to make the difficult choice of whether to eat or apply for an apartment and the landlord can work with applicants who are the best fit for the listing.
