By Deb Kallen, Communications Assistant

August 30 is the date when all the school supply and clothing donations will be ready for distribution at local schools throughout Bend, Redmond, Terrebonne Sunriver, La Pine and Sisters. For families in need or service providers who are working with eligible children,

the child’s school directly. The amount of free supplies and clothing will vary from school to school depending on the quantity of donations from local business.

Family Access Network

advocates are coordinating this county-wide donation effort. Advocates are located in all public schools in Deschutes County and serve families living in poverty who have children ages 0 to 18 years of age. At this time of year, they are busy fulfilling the needs that arise for students and their families just as school opens in the fall. But throughout the year, they work hand-in-hand with families to connect them to food, shelter, heating assistance, health services, and whatever other issues arise as a result of poverty. Knowledgeable about community resources as well as state and federal programs for those in need, they maintain continual communication with local service providers.
