Clark County residents could be eligible for an underused housing stipend
Are you or your client a Clark County resident that could use a housing stipend of $203, and/or money for basic needs like a bus pass or cleaning supplies?
The Housing and Essential Needs (HEN) Program is OPEN and available for referrals as of November 1st. To date they have qualified about 40 people for the program and they have capacity to serve 330!
As a reminder, qualifying participants are those that previously qualified for Disability Lifeline Unemployable, DLU, cash assistance (formerly General Assistance Unemployable, GAU). If you or your client used to receive $197 cash s/he may qualify. Others who you think may have qualified for DLU/GAU in the past can still go to DSHS to potentially qualify for HEN as well.
Residents can either call 360.695.7658 ext 3304 to make an appointment, or they can call the front desk to make an appointment 360.695.7658 ext 3302. Clients are being seen on a first come first served basis with a priority this week for people who are currently housed.

Here are a couple of suggestions: First, have him check out housingconnections.org, a website run by 211info that lists affordable housing options in the area. In addition, I would suggest that he call 2-1-1. One of our specialists can help him figure out whether he would qualify for other programs or services for people with low income. Just in case, I am also directing you to a recent blog post on our website at http://211info.org/blog/matched-savings-program-offers-education-without... about a matching IDA savings opportunity for college students that he may be interested in looking into. Good luck. He's lucky to have you watching out for him! Deb
