The Hispanic Chamber will host the 14th Annual Employment & Business Fair on Thursday, June 23, at the Oregon Convention Center, Oregon Ballroom, 777 NE Martin Luther King Jr. Blvd., Portland.

Employers will be hiring for entry-level clerical, technical and professional positions. Business owners, independent contractors, and individuals interested in learning about employment and contracting opportunities should also attend.

Businesses may submit an application and fax it to (503) 243-5597 or call the Hispanic Chamber staff directly at (503) 222-0280.

First annual Project Employment Connect assists homeless job seekers

Project Employment Connect

Project Employment Connect will be held on April 22 at Sonrise Church, 6701 NE Campus Way, Hillsboro.

From 9 a.m. to noon, there will be resume writing, interview skills training, haircuts, showers, and clothes for participants. From noon to 4 p.m., more than 50 employers will participate in a job fair designed to connect job-seekers to jobs. 

Registration is free. Participants will have the chance to network and learn about a variety of industries.

Scholarships available for teens and young adults pursuing a career in trade work

Trade Scholarship

The Philip A. Parker scholarship provides $500 scholarships for youth, ages 16 through 24, who show interest and progress toward a pathway in the trades. Applicants must have an interest in pursuing careers or jobs in the trades, have a financial need and should have demonstrated success and skills to be self-sufficient. Applicants must have a high school diploma or GED, plan to attend an accredited institution and live in Clark, Cowlitz or Wahkiakum counties in Southwest Washington.

Applications are due by 5 p.m. April 29. Applications should be submitted to the youth initiatives manager at the Southwest Washington Workforce Development Council.

Youth Environmental Job Fair

Don’t miss the Youth Environmental Job Fair on Dec. 30. It’s an event for youth to meet with employers who are hiring and who are offering volunteer opportunities. The event will include job applications, networking, pizza, games and an open gym.

Employers include the Oregon Zoo, Portland Parks & Recreation, West Multnomah Soil & Water Conservation District, the Audubon Society of Portland’s Talon Program, and Trackers. The event is organized by the Youth Mentoring Collaborative, which is a group of more than 50 partner organizations focused on supporting youths of color and the next generation of diverse leaders in environmental education and conservation.

The Youth Environmental Job Fair will be from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. for ages 14-25, with a teen night for ages 13-18 continuing until 10 p.m., at Montavilla Community Center, 8219 NE Glisan St., Portland. Bring your resume.

Careers in construction

YouthBuild is offering information sessions at Partners in Careers, 3210 NE 52nd St., Vancouver, for people ages 17-24 who are interested in participating in a home-building project and certifications in construction.

The program is for youth who aren’t enrolled in high school and don’t yet have a diploma or GED.
