In February, Human Solutions transformed an abandoned vegan strip club into a warm and welcoming 130-bed shelter for homeless families with children. In order to make the shelter more accommodating for families, Human Solutions would like to have a green space with raised garden beds, a rain garden and children’s play area. Volunteers are needed to remove pavement from the space. Human Solutions received a grant that provides tools and instruction from Depave, a nonprofit whose mission is to promote the removal of unnecessary pavement from urban areas to create community green spaces and mitigate stormwater runoff.
Human Solutions Family Center is located at 16015 SE Stark St. Volunteers of all ages and levels are welcome. Instructions will be provided so arriving on time is important. All proper and necessary instructions, tools and safety gear will be provided. The volunteers will remove payment on Saturday, July 30, from 9 a.m.-1 p.m. Please arrive by 8:30 a.m. for check-in and a brief orientation. Due to the physical nature of asphalt removal, volunteers are encouraged to wear comfortable shoes/boots and long pants and clothing appropriate for tough work.
RSVP: A nice lunch, snacks, and other refreshments will be provided. However it is very important to RSVP so organizers know how much food to plan for!
