New parents, maybe your young child’s future success is on your mind, even now. Here are a couple ideas. From day one to preschool, kickstart your child's future with these excellent Portland resources. 

Early child development help (Portland Metro)

Well before your child steps foot in a classroom, parents, you are their teachers. If this leaves you worried or wondering about the right steps to take, NAYA’s Parents as Teachers program will show you what to do. 

The program works with parents of children 0-3 in Portland through weekly home visits to develop solid parent-child relationships, and get your child school-ready. “Parents as Teachers” focuses on supporting child development, early literacy, and fostering healthy parent-child interaction.

Free preschool (SE Portland)

For parents of children about three or four years old, choosing the right preschool is a big decision. Preschool is, after all, the start down a long road of learning. Take those first steps in confidence, with a neighborhood program boasting beautiful grounds, qualified instructors, parental support and involvement opportunities, and more. Families residing in the David Douglas School District, discover what the Earl Boyles Preschool Program can offer your child and register before May 8.

Your child can participate in either a morning or afternoon session for 3 hours and 15 minutes, and transportation options are available. Once at school, your child will participate in activities in beautiful new classrooms and play areas, guided by a certified David Douglas teacher and an assistant.  In between all the learning and laughter, kids enjoy two family-style meals or snacks per session. The best part of the Earl Boyles Program?  All services are offered for FREE!

For the 90 spots available, there are requirements families must meet to be considered. They are:

  • Children must be three or four years old by Sep. 1, 2015 to be considered, with priority given to four year olds. However, expectations are that there will be spots left for younger applicants.
  • Only children who live in the Earl Boyles school catchment area are eligible. This must be verified by showing appropriate documents upon enrollment and at two teacher home visits during the school year.

To register: Pick up an application form in the Earl Boyles Elementary School office (10822 SE Bush St, Portland, OR 97266) and return the complete application form to the office by May 8

Is your child 0-5 years old but not within the Earl Boyles catchment area? The Earl Boyles Neighborhood Center offers free services including parenting education, parent-child story times and socialization groups, professional development for childcare providers, and more.

Earl Boyles es un pre-escolar GRATIS que está el la Escuela Primaria Earl Boyles.  ¡Hay hermosos y nuevos salones, áreas de recreo y un centro comunitario!  Su niño participaría en una sesión de 3 horas y 15 minutos en la mañana o otra en la tarde que tiene un maestro licenciado y un asistente. También ofrece 1 comida y 1 merienda en cada sesión. También hay opciones de transporte escolar.  
 
Quien Calificar?

  • SOLO los niños que viven en la zone de registro de la escuela Earl Boyles.  Esto de verificará con los documentos apropriados a la hora de registro y en dos visitas a casa de la maestro durante el año escolar.
  • Los niños que tienen 3-4 años de edad a partir del 1ro de septiembre del 2015.  Los niños de 4 años tendrán prioridad.
