Open enrollment is your one opportunity during the year to apply for private health insurance, change plans or insurance companies, or continue with the plan you have.
Open Enrollment for health insurance through the Health Insurance Marketplace ends January 31, 2016. Here are some important dates to remember:
December 15, 2015: Last day to enroll or make changes to your coverage for plans to start January 1, 2016.
January 15, 2016: Last day to enroll or make changes to your coverage for plans to start February 1, 2016.
January 31, 2016: Open Enrollment ends. Any changes or new enrollment between January 16-January 31 will not take effect until March 1, 2016.
After January 31, 2016, you or your family may only obtain health insurance through the private marketplace if you qualify for a Special Enrollment Period, 60 days following certain events such as loss of coverage, a birth, a marriage or other life change. See www.oregonhealthcare.gov for details or check with an application assister near you.
Did you know that you can apply for the Oregon Health Plan (OHP) at any time? Free or low-cost coverage is available for those who meet requirements for income, household size, and other factors. There is no special enrollment period required for the Oregon Health Plan. If qualified, your coverage could start immediately.
There are two ways to apply:
- Apply online at www.oregonhealthcare.gov
- Fill out a print application, available from your local DHS office
