Grin and Bear It: run or walk for early child health screenings (Bend)

Why do you run? Is it due to health concerns or commitment to a proactive lifestyle? Both are great reasons! For those who aren’t as psyched to lace up those shoes and measure a good workout in terms of miles, Healthy Beginnings’ Grin and Bear It races and fun run raising funds for free health screenings for local children birth to age five, is a great reason to start.

Participants have their pick of three events: two races (5 & 10 K) and a one mile family fun run on Saturday, March 7, which start and end at the Les Schwab Amphitheater in Bend. But don’t let these “runs” fool you - walkers are welcome too! However, the fastest male and female finishers in the 5 and 10 K runs earn an award. There are ribbons for best in age category and for all participants in the Family Fun Run. Additionally, a prize goes to the largest team entry.

All participants have the chance to win great prizes and enjoy food and beverages from local vendors. Whether you are entering a race, want to sponsor this event, or want to volunteer at the race, contact Angela Saraceno with Healthy Beginnings at or by calling (541) 383-6357.

All proceeds benefit Healthy Beginnings’ work. They offer 18 health and development screenings throughout the year in Central Oregon, offering service to potentially 700-800 children and families. Without these screenings and referrals, many health and developmental concerns would neither be identified nor treated and resources would remain unknown to parents.

Races begin at 10 am at the Les Schwab Amphitheater (322 Sw Shevlin Hixon Dr. Bend, OR 97702)
